Course Outline:

This hands-on workshop will give you comprehensive guidelines and best practices for Direct and Indirect posterior composite restorations.

Learning Objectives:

 

  • To describe the anatomy of posterior teeth and its relationship with dental occlusion.

  • To detail cavity preparation and design for direct and indirect posterior composite restorations.

  • To present bonding protocols for long-term clinical success of posterior composite restorations.

  • To introduce a range of resin composite systems available on the market, bringing competence to select according to different clinical situations.

  • To introduce different matrix systems available on the market, bringing competence to select according to different clinical situations.

  • To describe different layering techniques to be selected according to different clinical situations.

  • To present a detailed protocol to make and bond indirect composite restorations.

  • To present finishing and polishing materials and techniques for posterior composite restorations.

Day 1:

  • ​Posterior teeth anatomy & occlusion

  • Cavity preparation and design

  • Matrix systems

  • Composite selection

  • Layering techniques

  • Shade selection

  • Bonding protocol

  • Light-curing protocol

  • Hands-On: Class I & Class II Direct Composite Restorations

Day 2:

 

  • Tooth preparation for indirect composite restorations

  • Deep margin elevation

  • Immediate dentin sealing

  • Temporary restoration

  • Adhesive Bonding of indirect composite restorations

  • Finishing and polishing of direct/ indirect restorations

  • Hands-On: Indirect Composite Restorations

The Speaker:

Dr. Renato Quirino Ramos is a Brazilian dentist with a focus on aesthetic dentistry. He has a specialization and master’s degree in

Operative Dentistry (UFSC, Brazil), training in Endodontics (IOA, Brazil) and in Implantology (UFSC, Brazil).

 

Currently, he is a Joint PhD student at UFSC (Brazil) and KU Leuven (Belgium). Having a lot of experience restoring anterior and posterior teeth with composites, he lectures courses on composite restorations with his Brazilian friend, Dr. Edson Araujo. Dr. Ramos has his private practice in Laguna, Santa Catarina, Brazil.
